Portland, OR.
About a month ago I went to Portland, Oregon. I was born there a little more than 18 years ago. While there, I got to see a good bit of interesting bands, and stared at the ridiculously good women of the town. But most of all, I realized how much I want to be a hip fixed-gear bicycle riding college kid. We have them in lexington, but the ones over there had this feel of "this is not just to look cool, I have been riding this fucker as long as I have been walking. Yes, I smoke too, but fuck you, my lungs would crush yours in a second". Also there were lots of homeless people, and they all wanted to sell me drugs.
I got to go to Superfest, an All Ages show that featured the bands associated with it's very good dance-punk scene. I basically realized what life was like in an American Apparel ad there. Some of the better bands playing:
Guidance Counselor, they were the best band I've heard while there. I tried to see them again at a house show but sadly it had to be relocated to an address that I couldn't get too =[. The lead singer was probably one of the more interesting people I've met there, and he thought that everything was 'rad'.
*at 2:50 in the back right corner of the screen you might see a then-bearded kid in a white-t and a backpack jumping around like a douchebag, which would be myself.
Hedford Vachal seemed alot like a Giorgio Moroder cover band, drenched in synths and smooth deep bass. The bassist was emotionless, and had this "I'm better at this thing than you will ever be" vibe. Just when it seemed like their jams were getting too long, they invited Tahoe Jackson too the stage and it went back to 1988 chicago, i was expecting someone to break out glowsticks soon. It was intense.
Panther played at Superfest, but the video recorded of him just didn't do him justice, I thought. Instead I bring you this remix of done (along with the video) by E*Rock. E*Rock is crazy, I suggest you go here if you want to see what else he is capable of artistically.
Explode Into Colors played the second night, and were probably the most original of all the bands playing. A threesome of very cute girls, 2 of which were on different sets of drums, playing crazy tribal music with vocals HEAVY on the reverb. Shit was dope.
The two headliners of the event were Starfucker and Yacht.
Starfucker's set was completely insane, there were 15-20-something yr old girls everywhere trying to get on stage, usually by pushing everyone else out of the way, a good few eventually made it and acted like go-go dancers for the band. It should also be said that I made a friend with an outrageously tall man with long hair and his friend who was your average big-frame glasses wearing indie kid, the latter got on stage somehow with all the girls, and he proceeded to stand awkwardly and nod his head with all the booty-shaking going on around him. He later jacked the drummers drumstick.
Though I regret to say I missed Yacht's performance due too reasons not to be discussed, they are definately a band worth mentioning.
I also got to go to a house show (mentioned when talking about Guidance Counselor) where I got to see this badass group:
White Fang was the wildest band I think I've seen. They basically sing about things like "what the snake has taught them" while acting like a crazy hardcore punk group. They were very nice people, selling $1 pabst at their house show, and told me I should hang around their crew while I was there (I would have very gladly done so, if I didn't leave early).
So, thats basically the Portland Scene in a nutshell, more hipsters/homeless folk than I could count, and it also has the biggest independent bookstore EVAR (Powell's Books).

GOT THAT HOFFMAN IN THE FOREST!!!!!
I recently went camping with some dear friends of mine, it was a gay old time complete with me raging at the wilderness and more then a fair share of illicit substances. I ingested potent psychedelics while there and got reminded how awesome the shit below this sentence is. check it.
The actual song part starts at about 1:15 mins in. The person directing the video is in a nifty band called Gang Gang Dance. Both this video and his band are 'trippy' and dope shit. Got y'all a little song from them

gettin crunk on your car/feeling an unconceivable bleakness
SALEM is about the most exciting new group i've heard this year. They've got a video which features a nude black chick dancing on some old ladies car/theres smoke everywhere/you can't tell whats going on.
what does this mean?
i read an interview of them, they talked about how they were sensitive, and how they just want to feel something that makes them think they are alive.
i dont get it either, but I like them.
